Install HydraTree

Homebrew or direct download on macOS, the installer on Windows, and how updates arrive.

Before you start

Early builds are not code-signed yet, so both platforms may show a security warning on first launch. The steps below cover it.

Homebrew installs the app into /Applications and re-signs it locally so it launches without Gatekeeper friction:

shell
brew install --cask MangkornKW/hydratree/hydratree

Upgrade to a new release the same way:

shell
brew upgrade --cask MangkornKW/hydratree/hydratree

Prefer a direct download? Grab HydraTree-mac.dmg, drag the app to Applications, and open it the first time as follows (unsigned build): on macOS 14 or earlier, Right-click → Open; on macOS 15 or later, open it once, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

  • macOS 12.0 (Monterey) or later
  • Apple Silicon (M1 or later) — Intel Mac not supported
  • ~290 MB installed · ~126 MB download

Windows — installer

Download HydraTree-win.exe and run it. Because the build is not code-signed yet, SmartScreen may interrupt — choose More info → Run anyway. The installer lets you pick the install directory.

  • Windows 10 (64-bit) or later
  • x64 processor
  • ~400 MB installed · ~116 MB download

Staying current

Installed desktop builds check GitHub Releases for updates. Windows installs the update in the app; on macOS HydraTree tells you a new version is out, and you update with Homebrew or by downloading it. You can check manually in Settings → About. Homebrew installs update with brew upgrade. All releases are published on GitHub Releases.

Troubleshooting

Homebrew: “App source … is not there”

Homebrew's local record points at an app that was moved or deleted manually. Reset the cask and reinstall:

shell
brew uninstall --cask --force hydratree
brew install --cask MangkornKW/hydratree/hydratree

macOS says the app “cannot be opened”. For manual .dmg or .zip installs of the unsigned build: on macOS 14 or earlier, Right-click → Open once; on macOS 15 or later, Right-click → Open no longer works — try to open the app once, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. macOS remembers the choice. Homebrew installs handle this automatically.

Intel Macs are not supported. The macOS build targets Apple Silicon (M1 or later) only.
